Core, Abs & Push-Up Trainers
This is the smallest-footprint category we stock. An ab wheel, a pair of push-up bars and a set of sliders fit in one drawer and cover more work than most people expect. Nothing here needs a wall, a stud or a permanent corner. The constraint is different: it is not where you store this gear, it is how much clear floor you can lie down on. An ab wheel rollout needs a clear run roughly your own height plus a bit; sliders need floor you can actually slide on. Measure the rectangle, then shop. Free shipping on every order, US and Canada. No minimum, no flat rate.
What is in this category
- Ab wheels — rollouts, the single best-value core tool per cubic inch.
- Push-up bars and rotating handles — deeper range and a neutral wrist position.
- Core sliders / gliding discs — mountain climbers, body saws, hamstring curls, from two discs the size of coasters.
- Hanging ab straps — turn a doorway pull-up bar into a knee-raise station.
- Wheels, boards and benches for sit-ups — where a fixed anchor point makes the movement work.
Floor space is the real constraint
Take a tape measure to the biggest clear rectangle in your apartment — the one with no coffee table in it. For rollouts you want a clear run of roughly your height plus a foot, in line, with nothing your head will meet at full extension. For sliders you want the same width you would use for push-ups plus room to travel. Most people find they have the space; they just have furniture in it. Moving one chair for ten minutes is the whole setup cost of this category.
If your clear rectangle is genuinely small, prioritise push-up bars and sliders over a wheel — both work in roughly the footprint of a yoga mat.
Sliders: match the disc to your floor
Sliders are two-sided for a reason. The smooth plastic face is for carpet; the fabric or felt face is for hardwood, laminate, tile and vinyl plank. Using the wrong side either sticks or scratches. Check which surfaces a set covers before you buy, and if you have both carpet and hardwood in the same apartment, buy a dual-sided set rather than two.
On hard floors, sliders are also the quietest thing in this catalog — nothing lifts, nothing lands.
Push-up bars: grip, wrist and base width
Push-up bars raise your hands off the floor, which lets your chest travel below hand level for a deeper range, and they hold your wrists in a neutral grip rather than bent back — a position many people simply find more comfortable during longer sets. Two things to check on any pair:
- Base width and shape. A wide, non-slip base is what keeps the bar from tipping at the bottom of a rep. Narrow round bases feel unstable as soon as you go past bodyweight tempo work.
- Construction. Welded steel frames outlast bolted plastic ones. If a bar is plastic, look for a rated user weight on the product page and take it seriously.
Rotating handles add a twist through the movement, which some people like and some find fussy. Neither is required; both are cheap.
The quiet category
Almost everything here is bodyweight and floor-based, so there is nothing to drop and nothing to thud. The one exception is an ab wheel with a hard plastic tyre, which clacks on hardwood and rumbles through the floor structure on the return. Buy a wheel with a rubber or wide dual-wheel tread, and roll on a mat. Sit-ups and leg raises make no noise at all, which is why this category and yoga and flexibility are what we recommend for late-night training. More on that in our quiet apartment workout guide.
Buy for the routine, not the drawer
It is easy to accumulate small equipment in this category precisely because everything is cheap and stores flat. Resist it. A wheel, a pair of bars and a set of sliders is a complete core and pushing setup; adding a fourth gadget rarely adds a fourth movement pattern. If you want to expand, expand into load — adjustable dumbbells — or into pulling — bands and a pull-up bar.

Common questions
Do ab wheels work on carpet?
Yes, though it feels different. Carpet adds rolling resistance, which makes the roll out slightly harder and the return easier, and thick pile can make a narrow wheel track unevenly. A wide wheel or a dual-wheel design tracks better on carpet. On hard floors the wheel rolls freely and a mat under your knees makes the whole movement more comfortable.
How much floor space do I actually need?
For rollouts, a clear run of roughly your height plus a foot, in a straight line, with nothing your head meets at full extension. For push-up bars and sliders, about a yoga mat plus travel room. That is usually less space than people assume — the limit is furniture, not square footage, and moving one chair is the entire setup.
Are push-up bars worth buying?
They do two things a floor push-up cannot: they let your chest drop below hand level for a longer range, and they hold the wrist neutral instead of extended, which many people find more comfortable over longer sets. Look for a wide, non-slip base — that is what stops the bar tipping at the bottom of a rep — and prefer welded steel over bolted plastic.
Will my downstairs neighbor hear this?
Barely, if at all. This is the quietest strength category we sell — bodyweight movements on the floor with nothing dropped. The one thing that carries is a hard plastic ab wheel on a bare floor, which rumbles through the structure on the return. Choose a rubber or dual-wheel tread and roll on a mat and even that goes away.
Which slider should I buy for my floor?
Most sliders are dual-sided: the smooth plastic face is for carpet, the fabric or felt face is for hardwood, laminate, tile and vinyl plank. Using the wrong face either sticks or risks scratching. If your apartment has both carpet and hard flooring, buy one dual-sided set rather than two single-purpose ones — the surfaces each set supports are listed on the product page.
